Statement of Intent to Recruit Minority School Psychologists in the State of Indiana
The need for culturally and linguistically diverse school psychologists is a national focus as our population has changed significantly in the past decade. The projection for the future indicates a continued trend toward greater diversity. It is in the best practices of school psychology that we as a profession seek to employ persons with skills necessary to meet these needs. Presently there are not the proportionate numbers of properly skilled practitioners to meet the growing need. Statistics indicate that the future will continue to call for more culturally and linguistically diverse school psychologists. This scholarship will assist in the recruitment of qualified minority school psychologists and assist training programs with recruitment.
The IASP-SMSF Minority Scholarship Program was
established to promote and encourage minority scholars pursuing graduate study
in school psychology. This also supports the goal of encouraging and promoting
diversity within the profession and within the state of Indiana. With the
diverse population of students, our profession will be best served by
diversity.
The IASP-SMSF Minority Scholarship is pleased to
annually award $1000.00 to one qualified and selected minority graduate student
in school psychology. In 2008 the inaugural award will be presented at the IASP
Fall Conference.
