RTI

Response to Intervention (RTI) refers to a framework for providing students a continuum of instructional and intervention supports and using assessment data to identify needs and monitor progress. The National Center on Response to Intervention (NCRTI) provides resources and technical assistance to states and districts. The NCRTI website is www.rti4success.org.

Emphasizing the importance of core curriculum and instruction in such a framework, the Indiana Department of Education (IDOE) uses the terminology of Response to Instruction. More information, and training resources, is available on the IDOE website at http://www.doe.in.gov/ .

Reference to a process of providing intervention and monitoring subsequent progress is included in Indiana’s Special Education Rules and Regulations (511 IAC 7-40); commonly referred to as Article 7. Article 7 and companion documents are available at http://www.doe.in.gov/specialed/laws-rules-and-interpretations. Requirements related to the provision of interventions are outlined as part of Comprehensive and Coordinated Early Intervention Services (CCEIS) in section 7-40-2 of Article 7. In addition, the use of intervention response data as part of SLD eligibility determination is included in section 7-40-12.
