IASP Region 3 – Workshop

Topics: Developmental Delay and Dyslexia

Morning Session – 8:00-11:00 CST

Roundtable discussion regarding the change to include Developmental Delay eligibility for school age children.  We will discuss best practices regard evaluation components and specific assessment tools, when it is appropriate to consider DD evaluations versus another category of special education, how to best support our schools in accurately meeting the needs of these students, etc.

Afternoon Session – 12:00-3:00 CST

Let’s dissect the new dyslexia screening requirements and implications for our schools.  What is considered “dyslexia” in a school?  And how does this relate to RTI and special education eligibility?  Come share your ideas about implementation and how best to support our schools with this new mandate.

We all realize there is really never an opportune time for school psychologists to take a day away from regular duties, but please consider participating in your Region 3 Workshop by lending your thoughts and ideas to these two prominent topics.  We all need to develop plans for how to engage these two changes next school year.
